Valerie has facilitated management training for a number of years, delivering safer recruitment training, recruitment and selection training, performance appraisal training, equity and diversity training, disciplinary and grievance training for school leaders.

  • How abusers operate within organisations
  • Features of a safer recruitment process
  • Planning a safer recruitment process
  • Making the right decisions: interview and selection
  • Setting acceptable standards of behaviour
  • Maintaining an ongoing culture of vigilance

Participants gain the skills they need to ensure that safeguarding is at the heart of their recruitment decisions.
By the end of our one day course, participants will have:

  • Identified key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
  • Considered policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting
  • Begun to review their own organisation’s policies and practices with a view to making them safe

Valerie is a qualified accredited safer recruitment trainer with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation.  Safer Recruitment training resources are prepared from materials authored by the Lucy Faithfull Foundation.  Valerie has facilitated management training for a number of years, delivering safer recruitment training, recruitment and selection training, performance appraisal training, equity and diversity training, disciplinary and grievance training for school leaders. Furthermore, Valerie brings extensive HR experience in her role as HR Consultant within GDBE Elevate, combined with a passion for working with school leaders, helping them to navigate complex HR issues and get the best from their people. Valerie has worked in HRD for the Harris Academy Trust and as HR Director for Oasis Community Learning and more recently has provided HR consultancy to a range of clients through Discovery HR Solutions. Valerie has a deep love for education and is a Trustee for the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education.
