Intended Audience
Clergy in the Diocese of Guildford who have a primary school in their parish.  This may be a church school or a community school.

Delivery
This briefing will be a pre-recorded session. 

This training will:

  • Introduce both the 2023 Revised Surrey Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education and the 2023 Guildford Diocesan Guidelines for Religious Education
  • Give clergy an overview of how each syllabus has been created and how units of work fit together to create a pathway through RE in the primary school
  • Highlight the unique opportunities for clergy to contribute to the primary RE curriculum
  • Consider how to use school visits to the local church to support the RE curriculum requirements.
  • Enable participants to consider the best ways to partner with the schools that they serve in the delivery of RE

Jane Whittington, Schools Officer RE and Christian Distinctiveness

Jane is an education consultant at Guildford Diocese Education with special responsibility for RE and Christian Distinctiveness. Jane has been a Headteacher for 13 years, and throughout most of her career an RE subject leader, implementing at least three agreed syllabuses. More recently Jane has been involved in developing creative approaches to teaching RE. She has worked with Orison and Prayer Spaces and freelances with Barnabas in Schools.
